Chez Cochran Photography
My name is Katie and I am the woman behind the camera at Chez Cochran Photography. I live in Carmel, Indiana with my husband Jeff and our two daughters, Madeleine and Emily. Jeff often works alongside me at sessions, holding equipment and making everyone laugh!
Why I do what I do
I have always loved looking at old family photos and seeing how things “used to be”. As kids, my siblings and I got such a kick out of seeing our parents when they were younger: the hair, the clothes, the home decor. It’s so fun to see how people change over the years and to hear the stories that go along with the photos. Looking at family photos with my parents and grandparents always opens the door for new questions and the opportunity to learn little (and even big) things that help me get to know my family, and my own history, a little bit better.
That nostalgia is what I want to give to you and your family through a simple, fun portrait session. I want to give you photos that help you remember. I want you to print the photos from your session, put them on your walls, give them to grandparents, and save them in keepsake boxes for your children. I want to you share your images digitally with friends and family. I want you to have a great family photo (and maybe some funny ones too!) for your holiday cards. I want to give you the ability to show photos to your family now, and especially in the future, and share all of the memories!
What does “Chez Cochran” mean?
When we got married and bought our first home, we called our home Chez Cochran when hosting friends and family (one of our favorite things to do). In French, chez means “the home of” and, of course, Cochran is our last name. It referenced our love of the French language and culture and emphasized that we were welcoming people to our home, where we wanted them to feel at home!
ChezCochran.com began as a family blog that sat mostly dormant as we both worked full-time. In June of 2016 we welcomed our first daughter. I went back to work part-time, then in early 2017, I left my job as a legal administrative assistant to stay home with our sweet girl.
After taking newborn and family photos for Jeff’s brother’s family (and loving it!), I decided to make photography more than hobby. Chez Cochran Photography was the perfect name for my business!
More about us…
Before we met, Jeff lived and worked in France: teaching English for one stint and leading bicycle tours around the French countryside for another. Around the same time, I lived in Rome, Italy, learning to speak Italian (without a French accent) and encouraging Italian university students to grow in Christian faith.
Jeff and I met at a French conversation club in the summer of 2012, started dating, fell in love, and got married in November of 2013. We love to travel, conquer crossword puzzles, try new recipes, and figure out how to parent two sweet little girls!
When we’re not working at our jobs, we are…pretty busy! I am a certified Jazzercise instructor (it’s not your grandma’s workout), love baking, and am active in a local Moms Connection group. Jeff is an avid runner, enjoys tutoring high school students (in easy subjects, like calculus), and isn’t afraid of a new house project. But really, most of our time is spent caring for and having fun with our two girls picture below (precious, right?).
